About Me

The world can feel distant until something happening overseas starts shaping life here.

The Western Brief was created to make those connections easier to understand. It looks at major global developments, explains them clearly, and explores what they could mean for Australia.

I’m Mahir Chowdhury, a Perth based Master of International Law and Master of International Relations student with a curiosity in global affairs.

The publication started in Western Australia, but the focus is broader. Australia is connected to the world through trade, security, energy, technology, health, migration, geography and much more. Sometimes that connection is obvious. Other times, it takes a little more digging.

That is what I want The Western Brief to do.

I’ll always see myself as a student of the world, and I hope this becomes a platform where we can stay curious, ask better questions and make sense of a changing world together.
